New manager Dave Penney took charge of his first game as Bristol Rovers manager just 24 hours after taking up the position. Walsall provided the opposition, and included former Gas man Aaron Lescott in their lineup. Lescott proved to be Walsall's hero, netting an 83rd-minute equaliser to earn them a point after having taken the lead early in the game through Will Grigg. The lead changed hands in the second half when Rovers scored twice in the space of 90 seconds, goals from Will Hoskins and Jo Kuffour, before Lescott settled matters.
