Tornadic events are often accompanied with other forms of severe weather, including strong thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail. There were 1,042 tornadoes reported in the United States in 2018, of which 991 have been confirmed. Worldwide, 103 fatalities have been reported: 92 in the United States, 10 in Australia, and one in Argentina. 2017 saw slightly-below average tornadic activity in terms of numbers in the United States, and near-average numbers worldwide.
