  • Regnum Online, like any other modern MMO is under constant development. New features, content, bug fixes and performance optimizations are being worked on by NGD and realeased through patches. NGD has stated that to some extend, development is community driven. Players are encouraged to participate in the development section of the forums and report bugs, discuss current features and balance and suggest new ideas for the game. On many occasions, changes applied to a patch were a direct consequence of player discussions in the forums.

  • Sierra On-Line first announced the development of a licensed Middle-earth MMORPG in 1998. This caused some excitement among fans, who were awaiting The Lord of the Rings films, and was also slightly controversial for a few design decisions. The most debated design idea was the planned use of "permadeath": When a player character would die in the game, that character would be permanently dead (most MMORPGs resurrect a dead character with minor penalties). Sierra had financial troubles in 1999 and replaced the staff working on the game.

The rarity and success rate depend on the resource recipe used and your secretary ship's class. Your secretary ship is the lead ship in your first fleet marked #1. Some equipment is not craftable, see list below.

The rarity and success rate depend on the resource recipe used and your secretary ship's class. Your secretary ship is the lead ship in your first fleet marked #1. Some equipment is not craftable, see list below. Often you will fail to produce an item from a recipe, denoted by the penguin-in-a-box screen. In this case, the development material used will be refunded. Development materials can be earned by completing quests, expeditions, and World 2-4.

The most debated design idea was the planned use of "permadeath": When a player character would die in the game, that character would be permanently dead (most MMORPGs resurrect a dead character with minor penalties). Sierra had financial troubles in 1999 and replaced the staff working on the game. Sierra continued to confirm development on the MMORPG was progressing, but did not release any development details over the next few years. Vivendi Universal Games, the parent company of Sierra, secured eight-year rights to produce computer and video games based on The Lord of the Rings books in 2001. Finally, Vivendi announced an agreement with Turbine in 2003 to produce Middle-earth Online (at that time expected to be released in 2004). In March 2005, Turbine announced that it had bought the rights to make massively multiplayer games based on Tolkien's literature and that Turbine would assume publishing duties on The Lord of the Rings Online from Vivendi. A closed beta was announced on September 8, 2006, and rumored to have begun on September 12, 2006. An open beta began on March 30, 2007, and was open to all who have pre-ordered the game's Founders Club edition. On April 6, 2007 the beta opened to the public and could be downloaded for free and used until release. The game eventually launched on April 24, 2007, following the completion of beta testing.
  • The history of academic study on development has been in the main dominated two streams of thought: * Those that make unwarranted overgeneralisations about vast geographical, political and economic areas * Those that ignore that poor people exist First, however, these academics had to define just where in hell the places they were talking about could be called. The traditional and outdated comparison between 'rich' and 'poor' was controversial, as it was said that these labels were too easy to understand and measure. Next, there was a suggestion that countries should be divided up into 'North' and 'South', where The North was completely well off, except of course for perhaps enormous sections of Russia (i.e. Those not benefiting from having links with the Prime Minister, President, oil and gas corporations or the KGB), China, North Korea, most countries in the Eastern Bloc, Mexico, and Mongolia and The South contained completely poor countries, (excluding Australia and New Zealand of course). To deal with these difficulties in their generalised account, academics seriously considered redrawing the world map and shifting the world's tectonic plates, and were halfway through planning their scheme, when Captain Obvious said "Hey, you could just forget about trying to classify countries, I mean, it's not like everyone earns the same in every country anyway". This idea still is being hotly debated at universities at the moment around the world, but is unlikely to be accepted by any countries that are classified as rich or poor, because the rich countries want to keep the poor countries dependent to their Surplus food that they need to get rid of aid, and poor countries figure that bad help is better than no help.
