| - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is the third game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, released to the Sega Genesis. It marks the debut of Knuckles the Echidna as an antagonist hired by Dr. Robotnik. The game has since been ported to the Virtual Console, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo GameCube.

The game is a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and follows on directly from the end of the last game, in which Sonic defeated his enemy, Dr. Robotnik. Crash-landing on a floating island, Sonic encounters a new character, Knuckles the Echidna, and must once more retrieve the Chaos Emeralds while also working to stop Dr. Robotnik from relaunching his ship, the Death Egg.

- Continuing straight on from the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower have just knocked out Doctor Robotnik's Death Egg of orbit, but it has happened to crash-land on a mysterious island. The Floating Island is a natural structure that seems to float in midair thanks to the power of the Master Emerald and is watched over by the island's guardian, Knuckles the Echidna. Unfortunately, Robotnik has caught up with the echidna first and convinced him that Sonic is on his way to steal the Master Emerald and does his best to impede the heroes.
- To access both a level select and the game's Debug Mode, press Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up on the screen between the SEGA logo and the Title Screen (where it turns white and Sonic spins toward the screen).
