The BR2 Lightning 505 is essentially a sports car that can be used for track racing and long distance rallying. Designed as a mobile test bed for a new generation of lightweight super-efficient gas turbine engines developed by Brains, the BR2 was the second prototype based on a Universal Motor Company Lightning 505 high-performance racing shell to be engineered in International Rescue's workshop after the BR1 exploded during rolling road trials. Initial road tests demonstrated the car's superior speed and handling. With Alan Tracy at the wheel, the BR2 was driven to victory at Parola Sands, demonstrating the power of Brains' new engine. The sleek lines of the car have been aerodynamically developed to provide low air resistance at high speeds.

- Alan Tracy raced with this car against his old rivals Victor Gomez and Johnny Gillespie in the Parola Sands Grand Prix. After holding Alan and Grandma Tracy at gunpoint, getting a ladder, forcing them to go up on a girder of the San Miguel Bridge (which wasn't due to open to the public for a couple of months) with an ultrasonic movement detector linked to a bomb on the underside of the bridge, Johnny and Victor stole the car for themselves and drove off in it. Victor and Johnny were fighting over the steering wheel when Scott Tracy chased after them in Thunderbird 1 firing warning shots at the car. The sleek lines of the car have been aerodynamically developed to provide low air resistance at high speeds. The extra passenger space means it can also be used on normal roads – within legal speed limits! The car is effectively a faster version of FAB 1, in that it's powered by a gas turbine fed by two fuel cells located at the rear. Cahelium Extract X is used in the bodywork for additional strength. The tail fin incorporates antennae maintaining contact with base via Thunderbird 5. Headrests built into all seats raise hydraulically at high speeds. The rear seats are used by a navigator for long distance rallying. Access is via the main side doors when the front seat is pushed forwards.
