Delaney's debut came during the 1949 season, when he competed at Langhorne. It was a rough entrance for the driver, starting 43rd in the field of forty-five and only improving to 40th by day's end. Delaney stepped it up to a two-race schedule for the 1950, and faced significantly better results. He started off the year at Vernon, completing most of the laps to wind up with a solid 14th place run. He was even better at Hillsboro, where the driver emerged with a 8th place finish. Delaney's next seven starts came during the 1951 season, which proved to be a mixed year for the driver. His tough runs included a last place finish (24th) at Rochester and a 53rd place showing at Darlington. But otherwise, Delaney finished in the top-twenty five times, including a career-best 5th place showing at his native Morristown Speedway and also finishing up in 10th at Thompson. With all that said and done, Delaney did not return to the sport until the 1957 event at the famed Daytona Beach Road Course. Starting 34th in the field of fifty-seven, Delaney had a good solid race and wound up finishing in the 20th position.
