Later in 2370 it was outfitted with additional photon torpedoes and accompanied the USS Odyssey to the Gamma Quadrant to search for Benjamin Sisko after he had been taken prisoner by the Dominion.

The Mekong was one of the first five Danube runabouts to enter service with Starfleet. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 1: The Ships of Starfleet) In 2370, the Mekong was assigned to Deep Space 9 to replace the destroyed USS Ganges. In 2371, the Mekong was captured and stored on a Romulan warbird that was part of the Tal Shiar-Obsidian Order fleet that took part in the Battle of the Omarion Nebula, it was destroyed along with the warbird during the battle. (DS9: "The Die is Cast"; Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 1: The Ships of Starfleet)

They did find him, but were captured and taken aboard the warbird under command of Lovok and Tain. It was then carried into the Gamma Quadrant aboard the warbird. The Mekong was then destroyed while trying to escape from the Battle of the Omarion Nebula.
