Anomalocaris ("abnormal shrimp") is an extinct genus of anomalocaridid, a family of animals thought to be closely related to ancestral arthropods. Will discovers in Deeper the existence of Anomalocaris canadensis, one of the species of Anomalocaris. This species lived in Topsoil during the Cambrian era, reaching 3 meters in length and more than 70kg. They've been extinct for more than 500 millions years. However, they managed to survive somehow in an underground sea located in the Deeps.

  • The Anomalocaris is a F.O.E. found in Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold, and is part of the "Original Sin" DLC.
  • Anomalocaris was one of the first underwater Super-Predators during the cambrian period. It mainly fed on small trilobites living on the sea floor.

  • The first fossils of Anomalocaris were found in the Ogygopsis Shale by Joseph Frederick Whiteaves. Charles Doolittle Walcott found even more in the Burgess Shale. The mouth, feeding appendages, and tails were found, and once were thought to be 3 separate creatures, but this was later proven wrong in a 1985 Journal Article, by Harry B. Whittington, and Derek Briggs. Anomalocaris is thought to be a carnivore, and that it swam through the water by moving the lobes on the sides of its body. Its large head had (most likely) compound eyes, and a disk-like mouth. The mouth was made up of 32 overlapping plates, 4 large, and 28 small, that looked like a pineapple ring with the center replaced by a series of serrated prongs. The mouth could constrict to crush prey, but never completely close, and th
  • Anomalocaris had a cosmopolitan distribution in Cambrian seas, and has been found from early to mid Cambrian deposits from Canada, China, Utah and Australia, to name but a few. Peytoia and Hurdia are other anomalocarids.
