Like in previous games, the Mage Guild in Heroes of Might and Magic IV provides heroes with spells. It can be built in five levels, and higher level towers provide heroes with stronger spells. Unlike in previous games, it's not neccessary buy spellbooks here, since all heroes start with one by default. And the cost is not cumulative - each level costs the same as the one before, apart from second level, which is cheaper than first. The Stronghold does not have a mage guild, as there is no might-aligned magic school.

All are now connected to a specific , and all the factions have unique names for their mage guilds. The Haven mage guild is called the Holy Cathedral, the Academy one is called the Institute of Magic, the Preserve one is the Druid's Hall, the Necropolis's is the Tower of Darkness, and the Asylum's mage guild is the Sorcerer's Guild. All mage guilds provide spells of their aligned magic school, but they can also build expansions to provide spells from other schools. The Stronghold does not have a mage guild, as there is no might-aligned magic school. The mage guild also replenishes the spell points of any hero that visits the town. The amount of spell points replenished, as well as the number of spells provided by the mage guild and the expansions, depends on the mage guild's level: * First level mage guilds provide three first level spells, two first level spells from each expansion, and 35% of the hero's spell points replenished. * Second level mage guilds provide three second level spells, two second level spells from each expansion, and 50% of the hero's spell points replenished. * Third level mage guilds provide two third level spells, two third level spells from each expansion, and 65% of the hero's spell points replenished. * Fourth level mage guilds provide two fourth level spells, one fourth level spell from each expansion, and 80% of the hero's spell points replenished. * Fifth level mage guilds provide one fifth level spell, one fifth level spell from each expansion, and 100% of the hero's spell points replenished. Any hero that spends the night in a town with a mage guild gets all their spell points replenished, regardless of the guild's level.
