The police take over the search as Val breaks down. Mrs Allendale brings the twins back after finding them and giving them their teas. Maggie has to stop Val from going for her. Hilda finds two library books, overdue by five years and panics about any criminal action. Maggie fears Betty will take over her life, however, Jack is interested to hear that she's an experienced barmaid. Elsie gives Jack £300 to give to Len, in his name, not hers.
