| - Aamin Marritza was a Cardassian featured in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode Duet. Becoming very good and designing, implementing, and using filing systems Marritza was assigned to the labor camp at the Gallitep labor camp under Gul Darhe'el. The camp was one of the most brutal Cardassian labor camps, with Bajoran men being killed in front of families and Bajoran women being raped in front of their families. Marritza would hold his hands to his ears at night, unable to bear the screams of the Bajoran workers. Marritza unwittingly saved the Bajorans at the camp when he let slip to a visiting Cardassian computer expert Daul Mirosha that he thought that Darhe'el would soon kill all the workers there. Mirosha informed the Shakaar resistance cell of this then sabotaged the camp's defense systems, allowing the camp to be liberated. Following the occupation Marritza was assigned to the Cardassian Military Academy at Kola II, where he taught implementation of filing systems to cadets. Unable to bear the guilt over what his fellow Cardassians had done he arranged to be surgically altered to appear as Darhe'el and then traveled to Deep Space Nine, knowing the Bajorans would try and execute the man they thought to be the Butcher of Gallitep. Upon arrival at Deep Space Nine Marritza was arrested by Kira Nerys. He tried his best to convince her that he was Darhe'el, hoping the Bajorans would try him then put him to death. However both Kira and Odo were able to uncover the truth. Confronted with this by Kira Marritza broke down, stating that he couldn't bear what had happened in the camp, and that he wasn't strong enough to stop the atrocities. Kira decided to release him from custody, feeling that there was nothing Marritza could have done to stop Gul Darhe'el, and further to have Marritza tried and executed would be putting another good person connected to Gallitep to death, and there had been more than enough of that already. Kira and Odo contacted Kola II and arranged for Marritza to receive psychiatric care there. While they were escorting Marritza to a transport ship to take him home Marritza was stabbed by the Bajoran Kainon simply for being Cardassian, not because of his connection to Darhe'el. Kira demanded to know why, and Kainon said it was because he was Cardassian and that was reason enough. As Odo prepared to drag Kainon back to security she tearfully said it was not. Marritza would have a major impact on Kira's life in the years following his death. She would remember him as one of the good Cardassians she met. After being stabbed in the heart by the Jem'Hadar observer Taran'atar Kira had an experience with the Prophets. One of the Prophets took on the form of Marritza while interacting with her.

He served at the camp until its liberation in 2357. Following the Cardassian withdrawal from Bajor, Marritza relocated to Kora II, where he became an instructor in filing at the Cardassian Military Academy. While on Kora II, he underwent cosmetic surgery to resemble Gul Darhe'el. His plan was to convince the Bajorans that he was Darhe'el so they would convict and punish him as a war criminal as a way to force Cardassia to acknowledge the atrocities committed during the Occupation of Bajor. He was consumed by guilt concerning his service to Darhe'el and because he did nothing to help the Bajorans, to the point that he was willing to die to absolve himself and Cardassia of the sins of the occupation. He traveled to Deep Space 9 in order to be exposed as Darhe'el. He had a rare disease, Kalla-Nohra Syndrome, for which the only cases were the result of a mining accident at the Gallitep forced labor camp. He claimed to be Marritza in order to convince the Bajorans that he was really Darhe'el posing as Marritza. His plan was almost successful. He convinced Kira Nerys that he was the 'butcher' of Gallitep, clouding her judgment by boasting of the atrocities at the labor camp and filling her with so much rage that she wanted him to be Darhe'el, so that he could be tried and executed for his crimes. Marritza's deception and plan was unraveled by Odo, who discovered Marritza had been seeking information about Kira months previously. Additionally, Odo found out that he put all of his personal affairs in order, resigned his professional position and provided handsomely for his housekeeper before his departure. He also learned of Darhe'el's death from Gul Dukat, who crucially informed him that Darhe'el hadn't been on Bajor when the mining accident that caused the Kalla-Nohra condition occurred by providing him with official records to validate these assertions. In addition, Doctor Bashir found that Marritza had his face changed to look like Gul Darhe'el and was taking massive doses of a dermatiraelian plastiscine, a dermal regenerative agent. Kira promptly confronted him and gently brought the truth out, making him weep and admit the horror and grief he felt about what he had experienced and his sense of personal shame at not stopping the atrocities that had happened. Even with all the evidence against him, Marritza asked Kira to help him complete his plan so that Cardassia could face up to its evils. Kira, humbled by this revelation, was unwilling to be complicit in the execution of an innocent man, instead reflecting that Cardassia would be better if it had more men like him willing to face what his people had done. He was released, only to be fatally stabbed on the Promenade by a racist Bajoran named Kainon, not because he was Darhe'el, but simply because he was a Cardassian. His death was mourned by Kira. - Aamin Marritza served in the Cardassian Guard as a filing clerk and later as an instructor in the same discipline. His posting to the Gallitep labor camp on occupied Bajor would be a source of endless torment in his life. (DS9: "Duet") While serving at Gallitep, the sufferings of the Bajoran prisoners so grieved him that it sometimes drove him to hide under his desk, covering his ears and weeping as the prisoners cried out for mercy. After the camp's liberation in 2357, his witnessing of such atrocities continued to haunt him both in the physical legacy of Kalla-Nohra syndrome (a disorder peculiar to those present for a serious mining accident at Gallitep) as well as spiritually. He loathed himself, believing himself a coward for having taken no action to better the Bajorans' situation and continuing to serve as a part of Gul Darhe'el's staff in full knowledge of what he was, in some way, allowing Darhe'el to continue to do. After the Cardassian withdrawal from Bajor, Marritza took up a posting at a military academy on Kora II--and while still in this position, put his affairs in order and concocted a plan to travel to Deep Space Nine posing as Gul Darhe'el and have himself put on trial as a war criminal. This, he believed, would force the Cardassian Union to own up to its crimes on Bajor. But for the suspicions of station security chief Odo, his plan may very well have succeeded. As it turned out, not only was the true Butcher of Gallitep dead, but he had not been present at the camp on the day of the mining accident that gave Marritza Kalla-Nohra syndrome. In light of this discovery, Marritza was released for return to Kora II, where the authorities told DS9 officials they intended to help Marritza reintegrate into life there. Before he made it off the station, however, Marritza was killed by a Bajoran--not because he was Gul Darhe'el, but because he was a Cardassian.

(DS9: "Duet")
