A rift generator is a machine that can create rifts. Lawrence Gordon built one in the mid 1990s and used it to create a rift. After he stepped through the rift, that sent him to Mongo, the rift generator was destroyed. Several years later, Rankol (with the reluctant help of his prisoner Dr. Gordon) was able to create another rift generator. It was powered by zerilium, a deadly power source. Rankol and Ming used the generator in to send a robot to Earth to find the Imex. The machine was destroyed in , resulting in Flash Gordon, Dale Arden, and Dr. Hans Zarkov being stranded on Mongo.

  • Deployed during the invasion of Earth, the Rift Generator was capable of opening a wormhole and ejecting everything in a large radius into deep space. Heavily armoured buildings, such as the Construction Yard, Drone Platform and superweapon buildings can survive the rift opening directly above them but are heavily damaged by it.

Heavily armoured buildings, such as the Construction Yard, Drone Platform and superweapon buildings can survive the rift opening directly above them but are heavily damaged by it. GDI InOps noticed that similar to their superweapon, this towering monolith needed a certain warmup time before gathering enough energy to produce the miniature black hole. This was a considerably long time which GDI exploited during their assault on the Rome tower and in their final assault on the Relay Node at Ground Zero.
