abstract
  • Nation Song Contest 39 was the 39th edition of the Nation Song Contest, hosted by Bokia after their second win in the previous edition. Mysticland took part for the first time, and also Celeja and Lukeland made their debut entries. Saint Joe & Southgulfia returned back after missing the previous contest, whereas both Aleksandrija and Gozitania marked their return after long breaks from the competition. Shamitri, St. Lotus and Xanadu officially withdrew from the future contests this edition, and Spila was forced to sit it out after failing to vote in the final of NSC 38. For this edition, the final was contested between 29 nations instead of the custom 28. This arose after the first semi-final results that revealed that both the 10th classified nation (later revealed to have been Ugaly) and Calypso had finished in the same position, the last automatic qualifying position, but the host had mistakenly made Calypso lose the tie-breaker. As the NSC rules state, if two or more countries end up receiving the same amount of points, the country who obtained points from the highest number of countries shall be given priority. So, it was finally decided that both nations will qualify, so as from this semi 12 nations qualified, compared to the 11 from the other semi-final. The same scenario happened once before in NSC 24. Canedonia reached to win the contest for the first time in its history, and doing this in only her second participation. The final voter, Maccha-Brugia, was the deciding factor as his no-point to neither Canedonia nor Lyapunovia (the other nation fighting for the win) was enough to settle a one-point deficit win, with Canedonia heading the table with 168 points, while Lyapunovia with 167 points. Scorpionia and Giggshood battled until the last for the last place available for direct qualification, with Giggshood having the nod after receiving more voters. Mysticland made a sound debut by finishing tenth in the final, while Lukeland classified successively in the 13th place, with five points behind the former. Celeja, unfortunately, halted their new adventure in the semis.
