During the implementation of the Ruusan Reformation that followed, Admiral Poitiérs was extremely critical of the decision to abandon the employment of a standing military. One of the first of the admiralty to resign in protest, he eventually gathered a number of dissident Marine units to his banner as they became mercenaries, vowing to do whatever it took to preserve and protect the Republic he once served.
