| - The Smasher was an eight foot tall robot apparently created by a man named Kubala to stop the building of a dam somewhere in Africa, in revenge for Kubala not being awarded the construction contract. Kubala's plan was thwarted by construction foreman Glasgow Harry and the Smasher, deprived of signals to follow, sank into the mud and disappeared after killing Kubala.
Six and a half years later, the Smasher arose from its muddy tomb to create havoc anew at the command of Mister Latrumbo of the eccentrically named African National Construction Company. This time, even a nuclear bomb couldn't halt its rampage, but luckily Harry was on hand to battle it again.
The robot ended up being put on display in a museum in New York, to which Harry was invited as a guest of honour when the exhibit opened. This was fortunate for the Americans, as it meant he was on hand to advise the military on how to tackle the monster when mad scientist Martin Cuthbertson reactivated it in order to teach the world a lesson after his plans for solving the energy crisis with static electricity were pooh-poohed. Cuthbertson also died at the Smashers oversized hands, but Harry then successfully deactivated the Smasher and the Americans blasted it into space in a capsule, there to orbit the Earth harmlessly forever.
A second Smasher robot was later created by a bloke named Doctor Doom but the original is presumably still in space.
