The Constitution of Adygea became the official law of Adygea when it was ratified by the eight mizharha during the First Khase in Maykop on 13 May, 1995. The constitution provides for an elected President and State Council. It has since been amended twice: in 1995, elevating Balkaria to the status of an autonomous rayon (the only such division in Adygea) and in 2007, when Dmitriy Jaikbaev and his Adyghe restructured the constitution to more limit the powers of the President. The constitution was made law on 15 May, 1995. It consists of number articles.
