- The Akili are a race of near-humans inhabiting the Roho Nebula far beyond the Outer Colonies of the UNSC. While physically identical, the Akili are genetically different than the mainstream humans encountered elsewhere in the galaxy. They are the descendants of human scientists from Eastern Africa who fled Earth in 2321, after a series of charges regarding experimentation on fellow humans beings were leveled against them, taking them to the edge of known space. The Akili prefer to keep to themselves, save for the few the few times they find themselves forced into a conflict. They have refused numerous attempts by the UNSC to develop diplomatic relations, stating there is little Earth can do for them. They've maintained peaceful relations with other species, but their hatred for the Covenent is emmense, primarily do the invasion of their space during the Human-Covenent War, in which the Akili were mistaken for humans, and attacked. Since the war's end, the Akili have continued about their enforced isolation policy, and ensuring that all races understand they have no wish to deal with their troubles.
