The 2004 DHL 400 was a Nextel Cup event held at Michigan International Speedway on June 20, 2004. Jeff Gordon had been the dominant car all weekend, but his engine failure halfway through the field left the winner's circle wide open. Ryan Newman used a little bit of strategy to win it, taking the lead and holding off a spectacular last-lap charge by Kasey Kahne for Newman's first win of the year. Jimmie Johnson finished 4th and took the points lead by seven markers on Dale Earnhardt, Jr (21st). Stats
