The 2681 features a double cutaway German carved body in an early proto-Artist shape with shorter, pointier cutaway horns compared to the later evolutions of the series. The body is mated to a set-in maple neck with a 22-fret bound ebony fingerboard with pearloid Tree of Life vine inlays. Components include an original Gibraltar fixed bridge, original Quik Change decorative tailpiece and dual Ibanez Super 80 humbucking pickups with individual volume and tone controls. The 2681 reissue was discontinued in 1998.
