  • John Paul Carmichael was elected to the Baltusian Senate in February 2813, as a member of the National Party. Carmichael then left the party and sat as an Independent. He was elected to the Senate as an Independent twice. The Baltusian Pantian Alliance never challenged him in his bid against the National Party. Following the 2833 elections, the BPA informed Carmichael that they would be standing Kaspar Falkland in Carmichael's constituency of Redriver-Coldsea. Outraged, Carmichael spoke with Noelle Boileau, daughter of former Praetor Maks Langbroek. Boileau agreed that Carmichael would make a fantastic leader for the NDP, however, they both decided it would be better to reinvent the party with a new name. It was on August 22, 2834 that Carmichael officially took hold of the party. In February 2837, Baltusians went to the polls and overwhelmingly voted out the Baltusian Pantian Alliance government. The BPA lost all of its seats. John Paul Carmichael led the Social Democrats to success winning 21 seats to the National Party's 79 seats. Carmichael also won 50 million votes or 20% in his bid to become Praetor. Carmichael, however, considered the results to be worse than expected and resigned as leader. He was reelected in Redriver-Coldsea. He won 50% of the vote to 49% for Kaspar Falkland. 1% went to the BPA candidate.
