Holly Howe is a farmhouse on the eastern side of the Lake, and is home of the Jacksons. In Swallows and Amazons, Swallowdale and Winter Holiday, it is the farmhouse where the Walker family (the Swallows) stay for the holidays. It is a traditional, white-washed Cumbrian farmhouse at the stop of a steep field from the lake. It has its own bay from the lake, with a boathouse (home of Swallow). One side of the promontories bordering the bay is the Peak in Darien, where the Swallows first saw Wild Cat Island. There is a girl Fanny helping Mrs Jackson (WH13).

It is usually agreed that the original Holly Howe was Bank Ground Farm near Coniston Water, which was also the location used in the 1974 film of Swallows and Amazons. This was the farm where the Altounyan family stayed the summer before Arthur Ransome wrote Swallows and Amazons.
