Catholic tradition states that his mother was Salome. Several events were witnessed only by Simon Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, including the Transfiguration (Matthew 17), the raising of Jairus's daughter (Mark 5), and the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26).
