Tyan Sul was a Twi'lek male who spent his life in the service of the Jedi Order. One of the many pupils of the revered Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas, Tyan was a peer of such individuals as Exar Kun and Sylvar. When Kun fell to the Dark Side and remade himself as a Sith Lord, Tyan was among those in the Order who participated in the war to stop him. After Kun's defeat, Tyan slowly moved his way up the ranks of the Order, eventually training two Padawan learners to Knighthood and earning the rank of Master himself.

When Kun fell to the Dark Side and remade himself as a Sith Lord, Tyan was among those in the Order who participated in the war to stop him. After Kun's defeat, Tyan slowly moved his way up the ranks of the Order, eventually training two Padawan learners to Knighthood and earning the rank of Master himself. Decades after the defeat of Exar Kun, another war broke out, this time pitting the Galactic Republic against the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders. A split within the Jedi Order over whether or not to become involved in the war resulted in a large number of Jedi, led by two Jedi named Revan and Alek and including both of Tyan's former Padawans, joining the fight against the Mandalorians. Depressed by this turn of events, Tyan briefly took leave from the Order's headquarters on Coruscant, where he had been living, and went instead to the more secluded Jedi Enclave on Dantooine. Even this would prove temporary, however, as soon after the end of the Mandalorian Wars, Revan and Alek, now styling themselves Dark Lords of the Sith returned to Republic space with their forces and ignited yet another conflict. During this war, Darth Malak would bombard Dantooine from orbit, destroying the Enclave and killing hundreds both within and without, Tyan among them.
