Brightbill's debut came in 1974, when he competed at Pocono. It was a very impressive day for the driver, who completed all but five laps in the Walter Ballard-owned car to record a 10th place finish. He was even better when he made the Dover race later that year, surviving the "Monster Mile" and finishing 8th. Brightbill only made one start during the 1975, again competing at Dover, but this time racing in the respectable Donlavey Racing equipment. It was the best day of Brightbill's career, as he started 13th, completed all but twenty laps, and recorded a career-best 7th place finish. Brightbill did not return to the sport until 1977, making two starts for car owner Jim Makar. He proved his knowledge of Pocono was still up to snuff, completing all but six laps to record a solid 12th place run. Unfortunately, he couldn't convert the momentum to a good run Dover. Brightbill crashed just twelve laps in and finished last (40th). Brightbill's final career race came in 1978, when he made his final laps around Pocono. Starting 26th in the field of forty, Brightbill didn't have the equipment to be in any form of major equipment but didn't get into trouble either, winding up in 23rd.
