abstract
| - The drum of this massive hammer is topped with a layer of ultra hard diamond-like crystal that serves as an excellent catalyst for the powerful vibrations it can channel. In the off-mode, a burst hammer functions as a +1 thundering adamantine greathammer with the weapon of impact enhancement (Spell Compendium p. 237). A burst hammer owes its name to the propulsor fitted to its back, allowing it to be rocket-propelled during attacks. When this so-called 'burst mode' is activated, this increases the effective size category of the burst hammer by 2 sizes (to a base damage of 3d8), and adds 2d8 sonic damage (stacking with the weapon's thundering enhancement) to every successful hit. Furthermore, the save DC against the on-crit deafening effect of the thundering enhancement becomes 10 + the wielder's Strength bonus when the burst mode is active. Any wielder seeking to use the burst hammer in its burst mode must have a Strength score of 25 or higher. A wielder with a lower Strength score must make a DC 20 Strength check upon swinging a burst hammer in its burst mode, to prevent losing control of the weapon and effectively disarming himself in the process. A total of three times per day, a burst hammer can channel a shatter effect (caster level 10th) upon a successful hit against a creature or object susceptable to the spell. This effect does not allow a save for half damage, and may be used a maximum of one time per round. Prerequisites: CL 10th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor; blindness/deafness, shatter, weapon of impactSpC. Market price 57,950 gp; 30,650 gp + 2,184 XP.
