The manner in which they obtain slaves is strategic and cautious, often taking due measures to cover tracks, planting false evidence, and coinciding events to naturalize the disappearances. They regularly hire mercenaries to quash rivals and even lobby naval militaries in these countries to hunt competitors. Due to the large proportion of Western slaves these groups acquire and their high demand among Ulyssian manors and retreats, the gold earned covers these precautions adequately. The Western Suns are even known to change the name of their organization to shift and break ties, as when slave dealings in Novania went poorly. The Western Suns are indiscriminate with whom they abduct and will classify their slaves by color to designate what kind of role they will serve. "Red" means that the slave will go on to serve a fighting or combative role, such as arena-fighting or bodyguard services. "Green" indicates a "pleasure" role, at worst being sexual in nature. "Yellow" is reserved for soft labor, such as the role of a servant or sweat-shop worker, and "blue" for hard labor, such as brick-laying, cargo-loading, and rowing. Over the course of a year or two, the slaves are extensively trained to remove all hope and resistance (often, to the point of forgetting their past lives) and to better fulfill their new role based on their color.
