  • The Indochinese Union (more commonly called simply Indochina) is a multi-ethnic country in Southeast Asia. It was formerly a collection of Galician oversea departments. Although fully integrated in the republic and, in theory, enjoying the same legal rights as other citizens, many Indochinese felt that, in practice, they were shut out of the local political sphere. Starting in the early 1930s, a series of strikes and demonstration tried to achieve greater autonomy or even independence. To try to remedy to the situation, the government transferred some powers to a local assembly but was then faced with local officials that sided with the insurgents. After an escalation of violence, the Galician government agreed to negotiate independence.
