| - Kalmiya era un IA UNSC che ha avuto un ruolo apparentemente marginale durante la Battaglia di Reach nel 2552; essa è definita come la "sorella maggiore" di Cortana, in quanto la Dottoressa Catherine Elizabeth Halsey aveva progettato e testato le procedure di intrusione del software e delle informazioni digitali su di lei, per poi applicare gli studi fatti a Cortana. Quando la squadra di spartan costituita da Frederic-104, William-043, Vinh-030, Kelly-087 e Isaac-039 ritrovò la Dottoressa Halsey all'interno della base segreta della Sezione Tre su Reach, Kalmiya si occupò di violare i sistemi di sicurezza riguardanti la mappa dell'intera base; l'intelligenza artificiale trovò tra i dati segreti di un ammiraglio anche molti dati relativi al progetto spartan, tra cui il DNA di tutti gli spartan del Progetto SPARTAN-II. Nell'immediato tempo a seguire, la scoperta più importante fu il fatto che la base in realtà era un costrutto molto più grande di quello che tanti pensavano fosse, e nascondeva moltissime cavità, tra le quali spiccava un enorme stanza artificiale del raggio di circa tre chilometri. Kalmiya fu costretta letteralmente a suicidarsi, attivando il protocollo Cole, per non lasciare che i Covenant ottenessero le preziose informazioni che le conteneva; oltre a ciò, l'intera base della sezione tre fino ad allora conosciuta venne fatta saltare in aria. Per questo motivo fu anche causa della "morte" di tutte le IA presenti nella base, tra cui Araqiel.

- Kalmiya was a Smart artificial intelligence construct created by Dr. Catherine Halsey. She served as a host for prototype routines to test the software intrusion routines and software that would later be integrated into the specialized AI, Cortana. In a sense, Kalmiya was Cortana's older "sister." UNSC protocol demands that prototypes such as Kalmiya must be destroyed promptly after their material goes into general use. Dr. Halsey promptly disobeyed this order. She kept Kalmiya around, likely because her previous AIs, Déjà and Cortana, had been reassigned (to an unknown position and as John-117's attaché, respectively.) Kalmiya resided in Halsey's office in ONI's CASTLE Base. She was left there with Dr. Halsey during the Fall of Reach and proved very useful in helping Halsey and her SPARTAN-IIs escape the facility. She was somewhat disturbed, though, when Dr. Halsey used a hidden fail-safe to destroy Colonel Ackerson's personal AI, Araquiel: she asked if her own code included such a fail-safe. Dr. Halsey carefully told her (Kalmiya would possibly stress-analyze her voice to verify that she wasn't lying) that not every A.I. had the fail-safe, which was the truth, just not the whole truth. Kalmiya had to be destroyed as part of Operation: WHITE GLOVE to prevent the Covenant from collecting any information in the base. Dr. Halsey activated the fail-safe in her Riemann Matrix, revealing to her that not every A.I. has such a fail-safe, only the ones that matter.
