- After the Railway Series was published, many Thomas and Friends annuals were printed. They were hard-covered with colour pictures and photos throughout the book. The annuals also featured a number of exclusive characters. The 1979 and 1980 annuals did not contain any new material by the Reverend W. Awdry, but did have articles about real railways and railway terminology. The annuals published between 1984-1993 had stories written by Christopher Awdry.
- The original annuals were created by Marvel Comics; these days they are published by Egmont. After the 2002 edition was released in 2001, Egmont discontinued the Fireman Sam annuals after seven years of no more new episodes. However in the 2006, a year after the series returned to the English television screen, Egmont brought back the Fireman Sam annuals, starting with the 2007 edition.
- Botanically, an annual plant is a plant that germinates, flowers and dies in one year. True annuals will only live longer if they are prevented from setting seed. In gardening, annual often refers to a plant grown outdoors in the spring and summer and surviving just for one growing season. Some perennials and biennials are grown in gardens as annuals for convenience, particularly if they are not considered cold or heat hardy for the local climate.
- Doctor Who and related annuals are hardcover books that consist mostly of text stories, features, puzzles and games. Some include an occasional comic strip or strips. The first Doctor Who-related annual was The Dalek Book, the first of three Dalek Annuals published by Souvenir Press and Panther Books between 1964 and 1966. Between 1965 and 1985, twenty-eight Doctor Who Annuals were published by World Distributors (later World International). In addition to the twenty 'regular' Doctor Who Annuals, there were also four Terry Nation's Dalek Annuals, a K9 Annual, and three reprint volumes - The Amazing World of Doctor Who, Adventures in Time and Space, and Journey Through Time.

Some perennials and biennials are grown in gardens as annuals for convenience, particularly if they are not considered cold or heat hardy for the local climate. Ornamental annualer perennials commonly grown as annuals are impatiens, wax begonia, snapdragon, violets, coleus and petunia. Some biennials that can be grown as annuals are pansy and hollyhock.

Marvel published five Doctor Who Yearbooks between 1991 and 1995, and Panini published the first Doctor Who Storybook in 2006. In 2008, Titan Books released the first Torchwood Yearbook. In 2010, Idea and Design Works Comics (IDW) released the Doctor Who Annual 2010. Being a US publication, the date on the cover is the same as the year of publication. Titled both annuals and specials, these softcover graphic novels are essentially comic books, containing only comic strips and no text stories or features. Browse Annual releases below.
