The Grass Block is the main landcover block for most biomes and the only block that can spawn Sheep, Pigs, Cows and Chickens. It is a Dirt block with a grassy "tuft" on top. Grass will disappear off it when it is away from sunlight. Grass Blocks will be eaten by Sheep, turning them into Dirt. When a player right-clicks a Grass Block with Bone Meal, Tall Grass, Poppies and Dandelions may grow. Grass will slowly spread to surrounding dirt blocks. Mycelium will spread onto grass blocks, however.

  • Grass Blocks are Blocks that can be found in most of the worlds' Biomes. Mining a Grass Block yields a Dirt block.
  • A Grass Block is a basic Block that was introduced very early in the game. It uses 3 textures: first is a gray one for the top, which is then tinted to the correct color according to what Biome the block is in, next is one borrowed from the Dirt block for the bottom, and last is an edited dirt texture with grass on the top edge on all of the sides. When covered by Snow, the side texture is white. On natural maps, Grass appears on the topmost blocks of Dirt with no fluids or opaque solid blocks above them.
