A memo-wire was a medium for recording audio information on a fine, magnetically encodable wire. When passed through a special recorder, the molecular arrangement of the wire was altered, and changes in the frequency of of the speech patterns were electronically transferred onto the wire. This audio information was then reproduced when played back through the specialized recorder. This means of recording was considered antiquated by 1 BBY, and was only used on technologically underdeveloped planets.
