Christian IV (12 April 1577 - 28 February 1648), sometimes spelled Kristian, was the king of Denmark and Norway from 1588 until his death. He is sometimes referred to as Christian Firtal in Denmark and Christian Kvart or Quart in Norway. From 1624 to 1925, Norway's capital, Oslo, was named Christiania or Kristania in his honour, because he had organised its rebuilding following the great fire.
