He played senior hockey for the Calgary Stampeders, Turner Valley Oilers, Nelson Maple Leafs, and the Sydney Millionaires from 1938 to 1942. Boothman turned pro in 1942-43 with the Providence Reds and earned a tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played 9 games and scored a goal and an assist. That in turn made him a Leaf regular in 1943-44, when he scored 16 goals nad 18 assists in 49 NHL games. Yet, despite these good numbers, Boothman would not play another NHL game.
