It will disale sheilds quicker than a normal blaster cannon due to the ionized properties of the weapon. Unfortunately the scientists have not been able to increase the amount of damage done to the enemies' ships, having half the penetration of a blaster cannon. The shots can be charged to do damage equivalent to a C-4 explosive, but are only effective against larger and/or slower ships. Production can start immediatly on any starfighter, or support ship.
