| - As Sonic approached the Canyon of the Dragon Guard, the Dracon defending parted to allow him, Shadow, Amy, Silver, and Infera to pass through the canyon, into a cave at one end, and to a large platinum gem that radiated a powerful aura, mysterious yet somewhat familiar. Upon reaching it, Shadow turned to Sonic and asked, "Okay, what is this?" Sonic replied sourly, "This is the Draconian Master Emerald. Don't get any smart ideas or you're looking for the Chaos Emeralds. Again. Lay any more than a single hand on it and you'll awaken a reincarnation of the Draconian Guardian - or at the very least attract every Dracon on Darcain." Shadow reacted as though he had been slapped, then became confused. "Wait, how is this dangerous?" "You're not attributed to the Draconian power," Sonic replied. "It's risky, but do you think you can do it?" Shadow sighed, then laid a hand on the Master Emerald. He reeled back almost immediately, then shook his head, wide-eyed. "WOAH! The Mobian Master Emerald is nothing compared to the power in this!" He tenatively laid his hand on it again. "The power is somewhat... alien, but it's so immense and familiar enough that I should be able to utilize it." He turned to the other four and added, "But I can only take two with me at a time; otherwise something could happen during the warp." Sonic was the first to respond. "It's alright. I can utilize it. Take Infera and Silver with you. Once you've gone, I'll take Amy." Shadow seemed stare at him for a few seconds, but nodded and laid a hand on the Emerald. After making sure that he wouldn't be overwhelmed by the power, he held a hand out to Infera. She accepted it and laid a hand on Silver's shoulder. Silver turned to the Master Emerald and nodded. Shadow didn't even to even hesitate before shouting, "Chaos Control!" A coat of blue energy instantly wrapped itself around the three of them, causing them to vanish. Shadow, Infera, and Silver reappeared on Mobius, facing away from, yet clearly close to Station Square. The coat of blue Chaos energy remained over them for a few seconds, only starting to fade when Shadow and Infera released, and even then very slowly. Shadow sighed. It had been a risky move, but they had made it back to Mobius. "That was close," he stated, exhausted. That was all he could get out before the coat of blue Chaos vanished in a flurry of darkness. All three of them turned, only to see Zyx, the Chaos Energy reappearing around his hand. He was standing over Station Square. No. He was hovering over the ruins of it. The city was destroyed. Those buildings too small to have toppled over had imploded, and everything was in flames. Shadow could clearly see everyone that had lived in the city lying dead on the ground. Everyone was in perfect condition but for one thing; their eyes had glossed over. The flames were not natural; shadows danced within them. Zyx's darkness had destroyed everything. Shadow registered all this in a nanosecond. Then he coated in blue Chaos and grabbed the shoulders of Infera and Silver as darkness started to fly towards them and shouted, "Chaos... CONTROL!" There was a flash of blue, and they vanished, escaping from the horror that the Station Square had become. Zyx was hovering over what used to be Station Square when they returned. It was all too easy. He was contemplating his work - darkness shattering every building, lighting the area ablaze and killing everyone in the area - when there was a flash of blue. The reaper turned to see the the Chaos and psychokinetic hedgehogs, as well as the Darkspine. Yet it was odd. He had spread the Chaos Emeralds apart, preventing anyone from summoning them, and it would take a Chaos Emerald to utilize Chaos Control from another planet as the five of them had gone to. And even then, the blue Chaos energy coat had differed. It lasted for longer, very slowly fading and only when the three arrivals had parted hands. No matter. It just made things easier. Using his shadows, he warped the Chaos energy to him, coating his arm and reading it. The hedgehogs turned to him, and Shadow followed through with a second Chaos Control, leaving the area. No matter. He had what he needed. Reading the Chaos Energy, he was amazed at what he found. "Darcain," he said to himself. "So that's where he went during his little intervention." He turned to the skies - no, to the space beyond - and shouted, "Chaos... CONTROL!" There was a flash of blue, and the reaper was gone. Sonic made sure that the last remnants of Chaos Energy had vanished before turning to Amy. "Hey, listen, is it alright if we take a little detour?" Amy stepped back. "A detour? Why?" "I just want to show you what happened before on Darcain," he replied, "how I got this." To represent 'this', he flexed his wings." "How are you going to do that?" Amy asked. Sonic replied by raising a hand. After a short while, a gem materialized in it; like a Chaos Emerald, but three times the size and phasing through seven colours. Amy recognized it all too well, and leapt backwards in shock. "Holy Solaris!" she cried out. "The Mobian Master Emerald!" After a moment's shock, she watched as Sonic laid a hand on the Draconian Master Emerald and raised the Mobian one, shouting, "Chaos Control!" Both Master Emeralds flashed, and Sonic leapt out of the way as an X of light materialized where he had once been, then condensed into a blue rift. Sonic turned to Amy. "Do you trust me, Amy?" he asked. Amy nodded. "Do you want to know how I got this?" He flexed his wings again, and Amy nodded again. "Then come with me." Regathering her nerves, Amy took the blue hero's hand and leapt into the portal with him. When they emerged, they were still in the cave. Sonic pulled her out of the way and behind an outcrop of rock as Eggman materialized in the picture, drilling a hole around the Draconian Master Emerald. Amy could only watch as the tunnel expanded, the Draconian Guardian woke, Eggman trapped the defender, and... ...Sonic sped into the picture? The winged Sonic at Amy's side covered her mouth with his hand, blocking her scream as the second Sonic powered up to Super Form, then Hyper Form with the Draconian Master Emerald, and destroyed everything in the cave. Sonic could hear Amy trying to scream again when the Draconian Guardian blasted Sonic out of his Hyper form with a single strike. After the second Sonic, Eggman, and the Guardian had all left, the winged Sonic released Amy's mouth to hear a gasp of air, then a few pants. "OK, which question do you want to start with first?" "How on Mobius are we here?" was the frightened reply. "We're not on Mobius," Sonic reminded her, "but that's got nothing to do with it. If two users simultaneously activate Chaos Control near each other, Cross Chaos Control activates." Raising the Mobian Master Emerald, he continued, "Because I used two Master Emeralds from different planets, it was treated like two users." Amy sighed half-heartedly. "Alright," she continued, "so how on... Darcain... did that giant Dracon thing knock you out of your Hyper form with one blast?" "Because the Hyper Form was achieved with the Draconian Master Emerald, it was a simple matter for the Draconian Guardian to steal the power from me." Sonic sighed. "Any other questions?" "Yes," said a voice behind the outcrop. "How long will it take for you to surrender?" Sonic and Amy spun simultaneously to see Reaper Zyx emerging. "Fortunately, your friend Shadow utilized a Chaos Control so powerful it gave me enough time to read the Chaos Energy and trace it to Darcain long before it faded." Sonic took a defending stance, shielding Amy, but Zyx vanished in a blur of shadows, reappearing at Amy's side to land a solid kick to her stomach, sending her flying. Zyx vanished again, reappearing in front of Amy, then held the blade of his scythe to Amy's neck. Outside the canyon, the Draconian Guardian roared. Zyx ignored it and pressed his scythe against Amy's neck, drawing blood. "Well, Rose? Where shall we start? Behead you and have it over with?" He twirled the scythe and brought it to Amy's arms as he added, "Or slice off your limbs and agonize you before the kill? Sonic's voice shouted, "Zyx! Scythes up!" Before Zyx could respond, he was struck from the side by a powerful set of claws and sent flying into the rock wall. That in itself was incredible, as most attacks would be knocked back by his steel-strong skin. But what was even more shocking was that the attack unpowered Zyx from his Reaper form. Zyx attempted to raise his scythe and saw the black on gold. Sonic had worse problems than Zyx's detransformation. The Draconian Guardian attempted to strike Amy with a high-power blast, but Sonic quickly flew through it, causing it to implode. Amy, however, was paralyzed by fear, and only changed in location when Sonic shot by, grabbing her and getting her moving. Nevertheless, the Draconian Guardian blasted them. Sonic was simply sent flying, but Amy, unnaccustomed to the Draconian power, was sent flying out of the cave, her vision blurry. Zyx sped out ahead of Sonic, grabbed Amy, and held her up like a target as the Draconian Guardian emerged, ready to blast. Amy tried to fight Zyx, but her body was weak and Zyx was past her match. Sonic rushed out, over the Guardian, racing the defender's blast to Amy. The blast won, and Zyx shadowed out of the way as Amy was sent flying again, into a pile of demolished Egg Drones. Zyx laughed. "No, this is much more amusing!" he shouted. "Let the Draconian Guardian finish her off!" "You misunderstand it's power, Zyx!" Sonic shouted as the Guardian blasted Amy again. This time Sonic managed to outrace the blast and, though he couldn't get her out of range, prevented her from being sent flying any further than a few of metres. "Draconian Aura isn't meant to kill!" Sonic called, passing Zyx by. "It is meant to transform, intended to stop progress!" Zyx's eyes widened, but Sonic sped into the cave, materializing the Mobian Master Emerald in his hand. He shot through the cave, racing the Draconian Guardian's blast with Amy in his arms. He made it to the Draconian Master Emerald and slammed his shoulder into it, shouting, "Cross Chaos Control!" He didn't move as the X of light crossed his body, and he instantly warped when the rift appeared. When he and Amy were through, the rift closed, and the blast hit its own Emerald and vanished, doing no damage. Back in the present, Sonic reappeared, leaning away from the Master Emerald, and slammed into the ground, Amy rolling out of his arms. He turned to Amy, closing his eyes. "I'm sorry, Amy," he said quietly, a tear falling from his eyes. For to any casual observer, should Amy have been standing, all would appear alright. Except that, turning around, there were two small cuts near her shoulders in the back of her dress. Which revealed two bright pink Dracon wings.
