Minmi was a small ankylosaur, reaching about 2 metres in length and 1 metre in height. It had long legs (for an Ankylosaur), with hind legs larger than the front legs.Minmi probably moved relatively slowly on four legs, based on its estimated mass and its leg length as determined by scientists from fossilized tracks. Its neck was short and its skull wide with a small brain.

  • If it is one, Minmi would be one of the few members of the ankylosaurid family to be known not to have a tail club. The original specimen's diagnostic status is debated. In 2015, one of the most well-preserved specimens of Minmi was transferred to another genus Kunbarrasaurus.
  • Minmi lived during the early Cretaceous Period, about 119-113 million years ago. Minmi was an herbivore (it ate only plants) eating low-lying plant material like cycads, ferns, horse-tail rushes, etc. Minmi was an ankylosaur, whose intelligence (as measured by its relative brain to body weight, or EQ) was low among the dinosaurs. Minmi probably moved relatively slowly on four legs (as determined from fossilized tracks, its estimated mass, and its leg length). Minmi was found near the Minmi Crossing, in the Bungil Formation, near Roma, Queensland, Australia. It was described in 1980 by Ralph E. Molnar.
  • Minmi was a small Ankylosaurid that lived in Australia in the Early Cretaceous. It was first described by Ralph Molnar in 1980. Minmi used to hold the title for the dinosaur with the shortest genus name but that title has since fallen to Mei. It is possible that during annual migrations to retreat from the freezing winters at the south pole that Minmi accompanied large herbivores such as Muttaburrasaurus for protection.
