He played junior hockey for the Regina Pats and Lethbridge Broncos from 1976 to 1979. Despite good scoring totals (68 goals and 71 assists in his last two seasons) he was not drafted by any NHL club. The Atlanta Flames signed him as a free agent in 1979. Ingarfield got into one game for Atlanta in 1979-80 and another 16 games with the newly-moved Calgary Flames in 1980-81. He was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in February, 1981, for Dan Labraaten and played 22 games for his new team. After his playing career, Ingarfield worked as a scout in Western Canada for the New York Islanders.
