Wilson relocated from Sydney to Melbourne for filming. Of his casting, Wilson said "it's surreal. This stuff is part of your living room growing up and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have this chance." During the waiting period after his audition, Wilson watched the show "religiously", which made him want to be a part of the cast even more. Aaron is the third member of the Brennan family to be introduced, after his older and younger brothers Mark (Scott McGregor) and Tyler (Travis Burns). Wilson commented that he had received support from McGregor and Burns, saying "The guys have been really great, helping me out with advice." He also said that Aaron was "a very confident young guy", who likes to make people happy and is unfazed by many things. Aaron made "a memorable entrance" as a male stripper, before he tried to reconnect with his brothers. Aaron is also gay and Matt Bamford from The Daily Telegraph reported that he could find love with Nate Kinski (Meyne Wyatt). Anthony D. Langford from TheBacklot.com admitted being surprised that one of the Brennan brothers was gay. He also questioned whether Aaron's love life would be "as messy and complicated as his brothers' tend to be" and hoped Wilson had been cast for more than his body and good looks.
