| - Jon: So it’s Ryan next. Maria: You are battling him. Jon: We made a promise. It was only a matter of time. Kyle: Well good luck, we are going to head to the stands. Jon: Okay, I’m just going to change a few Pokemon. Referee: The battle between Jon and Ryan is about to begin. Both trainers can only use three Pokemon each, with substitutions allowed. Ryan (to Jon): Good luck, I’m not backing down! Ryan: Alright Greninja, I choose you! Greninja: Gre. Jon: Don’t back down at all! Remember our promise. Now, Fearow let’s go! Jon: You know all my Kalos Pokemon, but I thought I would surprise you with a Pokemon from my Johto travels. Ryan: Smart. You think because I don’t know the Pokemon you caught in the Johto region, you might get a bit of an advantage. Well that may be, but that doesn’t mean my party won’t give their all! Greninja, start off with Water Pledge! Jon: Steel Wing! Jon: What did you think about that? You can’t go full force at me without a plan. Now, Steel Wing again! Ryan: Who said I didn’t have a plan? Use Quick Attack! Jon: Interesting. Now, Return! Jon: You thought I was swapping Pokemon there didn't you? Ryan: I’ll admit, you had me. That is, for a split second. Ryan: Now, use Lick! Ryan (Smirking): I thought you said we weren’t going to hold back. Or maybe I was trying to distract you. Either way, you seem to be slipping. Though, knowing you for as long I have, I can safely assume that’s not the case. Jon: I think you have forgotten typing. Lick is a ghost type which, as you can see. Jon: So, I’m not sure you are bringing your A game. Though I am going a bit easy at the moment. Ryan: And I thought you didn’t like me. Alright, you want my ‘A game’? You’ve got it. Double Water Pledge! Jon: Don’t let Greninja have time to have a break. Now, Sky Attack! Ryan (thinking): Oh boy. Um…. Jon: Strong. So, what are you going to throw at us Ryan? Ryan: How about Pound!? Jon: For the weakest normal type attack out there, it was doing a lot of damage. Now, use a ground type move, Drill Run! Ryan: Greninja, Water Pledge! Jon: Steel Wing! Ryan: Clearly, starting with Greninja was a bad idea. Pumpkaboo: Pump! Ryan: Confuse Ray! Jon: Confusing Fearow I see. What’s your next play? Ryan: I think you can figure it out. Leech Seed! Jon: Listen to me. Steel Wing! Ryan: You know, I think we should just cut to the chase! Ryan: You wanted my ‘A game’, and there she is! So let’s do what we agreed to do and go all out! Jon: Now, Drill Run! Ryan: Ember! Jon: Now, Steel Wing! Ryan: Hyper Beam! Referee: Fearow is unable to battle. Jon: You were great Fearow. And now for someone else. Jon: Let’s go Duosion. Ryan: Let’s go with Psybeam! Jon: Calm Mind! Jon: Now, Signal Beam! Ryan: Hyper Beam! Jon: Now Calm Mind! Ryan (Pacing around in panic): Uh...uh...uh...uh. Ryan: Delphox, I originally didn’t want to do it unless we faced Typhlosion, but we’re going to have to turn that ‘A’ into an ‘A plus’! Ryan: Ember! Jon: Psyshock! Jon: Using Ryan-Delphox already? Ryan: Not like I had any other options! I don’t train my Pokemon as often as you do! Ryan (Thinking): I don’t want to back out, but I also don’t want everyone to try beating a foe that’s more powerful. Argh, I don’t know what to do! Ryan: Jon, I know we had a promise, but I’m afraid no matter how you look at it, I’m not ready to battle these Pokemon just yet. I need time to properly train everyone and perfect strategies.” Ryan: But here’s a new promise. When I’m ready, I’ll find you again, and that’s when you and the Johto Pokemon can battle us. For now, I’m going to have to forfeit the battle. Referee: Due to Ryan forfeiting the match, Jon is the winner and moves onto the fourth round. Jon: What was that about? Kyle: Well that wasn’t how I expected it. Jon: I didn’t expect that either. I need to find him. Maria: We’ll see you in the food hall. Ryan: Like I said, I’m not ready. I realize now I spent too much time focusing on my journey, not on my Pokemon. But I do intend to keep the new promise, seeing how bad I was with keeping the old one. Ryan: What’re you going to do? After the League I mean. Jon: I’m thinking of travelling around a new region. One which isn’t known too much. Not even I know that much about it. It’s the Alola Region. You? Ryan: Might follow your footsteps at some point, but for now, I think I’m gonna head back home to Vaniville Town. Jon: You’re not staying? I was hoping for a bit more support. But, I understand if you need to go home. Ryan: I think I just need to rest for the moment. Ryan: It was nice knowing you Jon Spencer. Jon: It was a pleasure meeting you as well. Jon: Though, when we next meet, your promise had better be kept. I would’ve liked to have battled Ryan-Delphox though. But, next time. Ryan: Though don’t be surprised if it turns out I slacked off. Jon: To think I only started in Johto, and met so many people. Now, I’m in the fourth round of the Kalos League. If you ever want to meet up in the Alola Region, call me. Ryan: Will do...once I get a Pokegear. Ryan: See you later. Maria: Did you find Ryan? Jon: Yeah. He explained why he forfeited. Kyle: You don’t seem happy to be progressing. Jon: I am. It’s just I expected a good three on three battle with Ryan with both of us giving it our all. Plus, he was beating me as well. Maria: All we can do is have dinner and think about tomorrow. Narrator: Jon’s battle against Ryan began and was a fierce one with Ryan defeating Fearow. However, when Jon sent out Duosion, Ryan forfeited the match as he knew he wouldn’t have beaten Jon and now heads back home. For now, Jon is through to the fourth round, what will this round bring?
