The RG1280 features a basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a bubinga skunk stripe with a 24-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with offset dot position markers. Components include a Lo-Pre Edge double locking tremolo with a locking nut, DiMarzio pickups with two humbuckers flanking a single-coil and Gotoh tuning machines The RG1280 was available only in Japan. In 2001 it was renamed to RG2080.
