| - Intellect devourers resembled walking brains on a set of bestial legs. They were servants of the mind flayers and took over their victims' minds on their behalf.

- An Intellect Devourer is a giant brain-like monster found in the Dungeons of Fate.
- Psionic body snatchers to whom no experience is too extreme and no flesh is sacred, they are one of the strangest, most mysterious races of the Darklands. Although in the strange depths of the Vaults of Orv their unusual ways seem less extraordinary.
- When an intellect devourer overcomes a lone victim, it consumes the victim’s brain and enters the skull, this is known as Body Thief, a process that allows it to take over another's body. When an intellect devourer completes its merging, it psionically consumes the brain of the victim (which kills it if it is not already dead). The devourer can exit the body at any time, bursting the victim’s skull and resuming its normal form. After consuming its victim’s brain, an intellect devourer can instead choose to animate the body for up to seven days as if it were the victim’s original brain. As long as the intellect devourer occupies the body, it knows the languages spoken by the victim and very basic information about the victim’s identity and personality, but none of the victim’s specific memo
- Intellect devourers resemble brains with four legs that are similar to most animals'. They reside deep in the Underdark with the mind flayers. They seem to act as some sort of pet or extension of illithids; whether they are illithid creations or they naturally reproduce in the world of Critical Role is unknown.
