The Superstella was a freighter that was ordered for contruction in around 2270 by Harcourt Fenton Mudd. The vessel was built using the recycled materials from the Stella series of androids from planet Mudd, and was given the name by Harry, in "honor" of his ex-wife, Stella Mudd. Additionally, the Superstella was designed to be able to transport tons of dilithium, which was part of Mudd's plan to obtain large amounts of crystals, and bring the Alpha Quadrant to a stand-still, and served as his personal flagship, which was also crewed by a number of androids.

When Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise were dispatched to investigate the shortage of dilithium crystals, they soon caught up with Mudd aboard the Superstella. To avoid capture, Mudd took the Superstella beyond the galactic barrier, which reacted with the large amount of crystals in the hold, and propelled the Enterprise and Superstella way beyond the galaxy. Thankfully, the Enterprise, Mudd and the android crew returned to Federation space, but at the cost of the Superstella. (TOS short story: "The Business, As Usual, During Altercations").
