Synopsis
  • Valdemar of the Flame comes to Metropolis to visit Superman. He lands on the Galaxy Communications building and leaves his falcon Skagerrak there as he jumps down. Valdemar, unaccustomed to elevators, climbs the elevator cables twenty stories to see Superman, but the Great Falcon is outside disturbing some airplanes. Superman and Valdemar go outside to stop him. They quickly return the bird to his "perch," but Valdemar suddenly gets dizzy. He passes it off as nothing, but looking below, he spies a dragon that he must stop. In reality, this "dragon" is merely a city bus and Valdemar is hallucinating! Superman decides that he must stop Valdemar from attacking the bus. Valdemar sees this as an attack and fights back against the Man of Steel. As Valdemar's hallucinations continue, he starts attacking the police officers that are trying to clear the streets. As the fight continues, Superman theorizes that Valdemar's condition is a combination of culture shock, pollution, and atomic fallout from the nearby city of Woodrow. Superman bores down into the Earth and releases a blast of hot air onto Valdemar. The hot air raises the Viking above the city into fresher air and knocks him out in the process. When he comes to, he is in an oxygen tent at the hospital, his senses fully recovered. He soon dresses and makes a brief statement to the throng of curious reporters outside his hospital-room door, and then rides off on Skagerrak.
  • Pete Ross, a surveyor who still knows that Clark Kent is Superman, attempts to erase traces of Clark Kent’s double identity by scheduling the demolition of the old Kent house in Smallville, not realizing how much sentimental attachment Clark still has for it.
