abstract
  • The United States presidential election of 2080 was the 74th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 6, 2080. The contest was between incumbent Progressive President Horace Fadel and his Conservative opponent, Colorado Governor Oscar Lachman, as well as Libertarian Senator Rahm Carleson, and Liberal Party Congresswoman Anne Clinton. Lachman, aided by the Iran hostage crisis and a worsening economy at home marked by high unemployment and inflation, won the election in a landslide, becoming the first presidential candidate of the Conservative Party to win the presidency. Fadel, after a brutal nomination fight, attacked Lachman as a dangerous right-wing radical. For his part, Lachman pledged to uplift the pessimistic mood of the nation, and won a decisive victory; in the simultaneous Congressional elections, Conservatives won control of the United States Senate after forging a tentative coalition with the Constitution Party. This election marked the beginning of what is popularly called the Lachman Era, and signified a conservative realignment in national politics.
