There are countless battles in the Human-Covenant War, many of those which are depressingly human losses which are as quickly forgotten as the war dragged on. For some of those battles, it was a little-known fact that some had the capacity to change the course of history. The Battle of Circumstance is one of those conflicts. Taking place over the fortress world of Circumstance, the UNSC may have just as quickly abandoned the place to send the rest of their available forces to reinforce Reach. However, the discovery that a Covenant Hierarch led the invasion changed the minds of all those involved in it.

For some of those battles, it was a little-known fact that some had the capacity to change the course of history. The Battle of Circumstance is one of those conflicts. Taking place over the fortress world of Circumstance, the UNSC may have just as quickly abandoned the place to send the rest of their available forces to reinforce Reach. However, the discovery that a Covenant Hierarch led the invasion changed the minds of all those involved in it. While often dismissed in terms of raw strength, Circumstance was seen by veterans as one of the most desperate conflicts of the war, as morale on both sides was pushed to an all-time high. The harsh terrain did nothing to dampen their hopes, until the retreat order demanded the defenders to retreat. When coupled with the Siege of Tribute and the Battle of Tantalus, many historians agree that the Covenant's multiple attacks forced the UNSC to starve Reach of reinforcements, ending in the colossal defeat that occurred in the system.
