| - A Nightgaunt is a level 3 unit belonging to the race and the faction of Undead. It advances from the Shadow and is one of the final advancements of the Ghost, the other being the Spectre. Nightgaunts are fast, maneuverable units that possess savage claws with which they rip and tear at the foe from behind. Able to melt into the shadows at night, they are effective assassins due to their ability to easily slip through enemy lines.
- When the player reaches the stairs, there are two Nightgaunts guarding either staircase. The player needs to banish them before being able to proceed downstairs.
- A nightgaunt is yet another Lovecraftian monster to appear in SLASH'EM. Small groups of them are commonly seen in later levels of both the Dungeons of Doom and Gehennom. They possess a unique attack, AD_TCKL, which behaves exactly the same as a paralysis attack except for having a different message, and abusing constitution in addition to dexterity.
- Nightgaunt (Eddie McKinnon) is a member of the Children of the Night, working for the Necromancer. He's a cheap shot artist extraordinare. He carries lots of weapons and wears "a helmet that was featureless except for two devilish looking horns, a Batman-style cape and some obvious body armor," and he doesn't take the helmet off much, so much so that Vamp has never seen his face. He can travel through shadows instantly, and hide in them, a power taken with the costume from the previous Nightgaunt, a hero who this one killed. During the Boston Brawls, he shot Lancer point-blank, and later stuck a bomb to him, after which Bladedancer chased him through the shadows, though he escaped.
- Like the literary creature of his namesake, NIGHTGAUNT prefers fast and quiet strikes. In battle, he is almost entirely mute, speaking up only when his life (or job) is on the line. He follows orders to the letter, and without question. He is not only renowned for his natural aptitude behind the stick of just about any aircraft, but for the deadly efficiency with which he flies them. While he seems to possess limitless patience, his temper is quite vicious when raised. In truth, Nightgaunt holds an amazing level of control over his own emotions. He can suppress anything from fear to joy, all in the name of duty. Some of his comrades have actually questioned whether he feels any emotions at all.
