Tyler looked at the city that now lay before him, Pewter City, and it was to be the sight of his first gym battle. “Here we are Charmander, Pewter City.” Tyler said to his Charmander, which stood next to him. Tyler immediately with haste wanted to find the Pokemon gym and defeat it’s leader, once he had his gym badge he would be one step closer to achieving his dream. “Heh.” Tyler chuckled, not wanting to admit what he had done. Behind Leira was none other than Electra and her Pikachu. “Well what do you have to say for yourself?” Electra questioned him. “Fine, I’ll let it slide.” Leira replied.

Tyler immediately with haste wanted to find the Pokemon gym and defeat it’s leader, once he had his gym badge he would be one step closer to achieving his dream. “Tyler!” A familiar voice boomed, Tyler turned his head and was met with a fist. On the other end of the fist was Leira who had punched him in the face for only one reason. “You left us in the Viridian Forest!” Leira continued to screech at him. “Heh.” Tyler chuckled, not wanting to admit what he had done. Behind Leira was none other than Electra and her Pikachu. “Well what do you have to say for yourself?” Electra questioned him. “Sorry.” Tyler quickly answered, hoping that he would be forgiven. “Sorry!” Leira exclaimed, feeling even more angry than before. “What do you want me to say! I was scared so instinct kicked in!” Tyler shouted. Leira let out a shout, Tyler was truly pitiful but being that Tyler was her best childhood friend, she couldn’t stay mad at him. “Fine, I’ll let it slide.” Leira replied. “You’ll let it slide!” Electra yelled in surprise, she on the other hand was still angered by Tyler’s actions. “Ugh!” Tyler groaned impatiently, he didn’t have time for girl trouble. “If you two would excuse me, I got a gym battle to attend to.” Tyler walked off from his traveling companions, Charmander following closely behind, he had his own business to attend to. Tyler soon located the Pewter City gym, it wasn’t that hard to spot, being a building made entirely out of rocks. “Well look who we have here.” went a familiar snicker. My horoscope must say that I’m going to have a bad day if I’m running into him. Tyler thought, rolling his eyes. Appearing to him was none other than Tommy, even worse, in Tommy’s hand was a tiny, shiny, object shaped like an octagon. The object that Tommy had was none other than the Boulder Badge, this signaled to Tyler that Tommy had defeated the gym leader of Pewter City. “I know your jealous.” Tommy replied, shoving the badge in Tyler’s face. “Get out of my sight Tommy.” Tyler growled, walking past Tommy, bumping his shoulder into Tommy aggressively as he walked past. Charmander followed his trainer closely behind, in an act of rudeness, Tommy stepped on the tail of Tyler’s Charmander. “Char!” Tyler’s Charmander screamed in pain. Tommy snickered and took off running down the streets of Pewter City, Tyler glared at Tommy, he was starting to think that Tommy was becoming a complete nuisance. Tyler, after comforting his Charmander, entered the front doors of the gym. Inside of the gym, Tyler discovered an arena covered with boulders, fitting an obvious rock-type theme. “Who goes there!” went a voice. Tyler turned his head to see a teenage boy with brown spiky hair wearing tan cargo pants. “I’m Tyler Red, a Pokemon Trainer from Pallet Town.” Tyler said, introducing himself. “Another one from Pallet Town, I am Brock, the leader of the Pewter City Gym, you’re here for a gym battle I take it?” Brock questioned Tyler. “Yes sir.” Tyler responded respectfully. “Right this way then.” Brock replied, waving his hand in a motion for Tyler to follow him. Brock stood on one side of the arena while Tyler took his position at the other side. Another man was within the gym as well, he was the referee for the gym match. “Here are the rules for this match, only two Pokemon may be used by each side and only the challenger is able to substitute Pokemon!” The referee spoke, explaining the rules to Tyler. “Ready…set…begin!” The referee then waved two flags, one red and one green, signaling that the battle was on. “Geodude let’s go!” Brock yelled as he threw a Pokeball to the ground, exploding out of the Pokeball was a gray boulder with bulging eyebrows and muscular arms. “What is that?” Tyler questioned himself aloud, taking out his Pokedex. “Geodude, the Rock Pokemon. It is a Pokemon with incredible defense power known to have half of it’s body buried in the dirt so it can observe it’s surroundings.” The Pokedex read to Tyler who then let out a gulp. Tyler was dealing with rock-type Pokemon and he didn’t have a Pokemon that could easily overtake a rock-type. “Pidgey.” Tyler called, reluctantly releasing the bird Pokemon onto the battlefield. The Pidgey fluttered her wings around at the sight of the Geodude and let out a squawk of displeasure. “Well well a flying-type.” Brock murmured under his breath, he could tell that Tyler had no idea that his gym specialized in rock-type Pokemon which flying-types were at a disadvantage against. “Tackle!” Brock called out, his Geodude hurled it’s rocky body at Tyler’s Pidgey hitting it head on. The Pidgey fell to the floor of the arena and rose back up in a few seconds, shaking it’s head in a daze. “Pidgey use a Tackle of your own!” Tyler shouted, Pidgey flew towards Geodude, hitting it’s rocky body with her own. The attack unleashed by Pidgey only had a minor affect on Geodude who shook the attack off like it was nothing. “Face it boy your bird is useless here!” Brock called out towards Tyler, who didn’t want to admit the gym leader was right. “Pidgey use Quick Attack!” Tyler shouted out. Pidgey flew towards Geodude with incredible speed, hitting the rock Pokemon head on, the Geodude appeared to be a bit more affected by the second attack than the first but still was in a good condition. “End it Geodude!” Brock commanded his Pokemon. Geodude then made short work of Tyler’s Pidgey, grabbing the bird with his arms and smashing it onto the ground below with incredible strength. Tyler’s Pidgey was knocked out, losing the battle. “Dang.” Tyler snapped, calling Pidgey back to the Pokeball. The battle appeared to be a lost cause from the start, Tyler’s last hope was his Charmander. “Alright Charmander your up.” Tyler said reluctantly, he saw what Geodude had did to his last Pokemon and now he didn’t want Charmander to get beaten up. “Give up now.” Brock suggested to Tyler. “I didn’t come this far to surrender now.” Tyler replied, trying not to sound as if he was discouraged by Pidgey’s defeat. “Well then I guess I’ll have to get things going then.” Brock said pointing at Tyler’s Charmander. “Use Defense Curl then follow up with a Tackle attack.” Brock ordered Geodude, the Pokemon used Defense Curl to increase it’s defense and charged at Charmander. “Charmander use Ember when it get’s close enough!” Tyler said to his Charmander, when Geodude was within a close-range to his Charmander, the small fire lizard unleashed a shower of flames onto the Pokemon. The Geodude flew back in a bit of pain, although the attack wasn’t all that effective some damage had been done, the Geodude smacked Charmander with one of his arms before retreating. “Alright Geodude go back in close with another Tackle!” Brock shouted at his rock Pokemon, the Geodude launched itself towards Charmander and this time was able to throw the fire lizard onto the floor. “Ember!” Tyler cried, Charmander unleashed a shower of flames once more, causing Geodude to wince and let go of Charmander. Now being free, Charmander leaped towards Geodude scratching the rock Pokemon with his claws. The Scratch attack did more harm than help, Charmander hurt itself scratching against Geodude’s hard body. “Tackle.” Brock simply ordered, Geodude threw itself at Charmander once more. “Ember!” Tyler yelled without hesitation and thought, Charmander mindlessly unleashed flames onto Geodude once more. The Geodude, being tired from the previous battle with Pidgey, was weakened a bit by the attack and fainted onto the floor of the gym. Brock chuckled, even though Geodude was defeated he believed that Tyler and his Charmander wouldn’t get past his next Pokemon. “Onix, let’s go!” Brock shouted, exploding from another Pokeball was a long rock-like snake Pokemon. “What kind of Pokemon is that?” Tyler questioned himself again, pulling out his Pokedex. “Onix, the Rock Snake Pokemon. It makes tunnels underground and occasionally lets out a powerful screech, this Pokemon is also known to move rather fast reaching speeds of fifty miles per hour on ground.” The Pokedex read to Tyler. Tyler put the Pokedex up, no surprise, he was dealing with another rock-type and this one was going to be a problem. “Bind.” Brock lashed out, his Onix then wrapped it’s long body around Tyler’s Charmander and began to squeeze the small fire lizard. “Ayah, Ember!” Tyler called out in surprise. Charmander released a shower of flames onto the Onix, hitting in the face. Brock’s Onix, however, appeared to not be affected by the attack the slightest bit and continued to squeeze Tyler’s Charmander even harder. “You should surrender, your Charmander is losing air.” Brock suggested once more. Tyler wasn’t going to give up, he was going to fight this through…but how? Onix finally let Charmander go by Brock’s order, for fear that Onix would suffocate the much smaller Pokemon. Charmander rose to it’s feet, slowly catching it’s breath. There is nothing I can do. Charmander can only use Scratch, Growl, and Ember and all have no effect. Tyler thought. “Alright, Rock Tomb.” Brock orderd his Onix. Onix began to hurl large boulders at Tyler’s Charmander, it appeared that it would be all over as the attack would without a doubt prove to be super effective. “Charmander!” Tyler’s Charmander shouted, the claws of his Charmander began to glow, appearing to turn steel right before Tyler’s very eyes. Charmander used this new attack to slash through the boulders being hurled at it, then the Charmander leaped in the air and used the attack on Brock’s Onix, slashing the large rock snake Pokemon to the ground, knocking it out. Tyler had just become the luckiest Pokemon Trainer in the world, Tyler’s Charmander had learned to use Metal Claw at the knick of time. “Con-congratulations…you’ve won…the Boulder Badge.” Brock stammered in confusion at what just happened. He struggled over towards Tyler, handing him a gray octagon, Tyler’s very own Boulder Badge.
