First Volet'aval was a Jem'Hadar First who fought in the Alpha Quadrant during the Dominion War. He was bred specifically for combat in that war, and was promoted over many older Jem'Hadar to take the position of First aboard his ship. (Star Trek: Sigils and Unions) Ultimately he and his comrades were defeated by the rebel forces. In his last moments, Volet'aval privately admitted to a grudging sort of respect for Cardassian gul Tayben Berat--who in spite of being what a Jem'Hadar or Vorta would consider to be a "defective," had proven his ability as a cunning and innovative fighter.

  • First Volet'aval was a Jem'Hadar First who fought in the Alpha Quadrant during the Dominion War. He was bred specifically for combat in that war, and was promoted over many older Jem'Hadar to take the position of First aboard his ship. (Star Trek: Sigils and Unions) His final action took place in the Lessek system, where he witnessed the first uprising of the Thirteenth Order, a joint Cardassian-Starfleet rebellion (though Volet'aval never realized there was Starfleet participation). He detected signs he could not prove that there was weapons fire going on on the surface, but due to the Dominion presence in the surface installations, he would have required permission from the Vorta commander planetside to open fire. Due to Gul Berat's jamming, he was never able to establish this link and tried to find alternate means to justify an attack. Though he suspected before major hostilities that Gul Macet had been involved in Damar's rebellion, specifically the Battle of Rondac III, he was unable to prove this in time to take pre-emptive action against the four Galor-class vessels gathered in orbit of Lessek. Ultimately he and his comrades were defeated by the rebel forces. In his last moments, Volet'aval privately admitted to a grudging sort of respect for Cardassian gul Tayben Berat--who in spite of being what a Jem'Hadar or Vorta would consider to be a "defective," had proven his ability as a cunning and innovative fighter.
