Synopsis
  • Tony Stark works on adding nuclear thrusters and deep-space adaptability to his Iron Man armor. Iron Man uses his new armor to meet Dum-Dum Dugan, who says he now owns the factory by order of the United States government. Iron Man refuses to surrender the property to S.H.I.E.L.D. Dugan shows Iron Man footage from a tea plantation just outside Stark Industries, in which a school bursts into flames. Dugan says the Chinese government blames Stark Industries. A.I.M. takes credit for the attack and threatens to destroy ten of the world's largest population centers. Iron Man goes to to examine A.I.M.'s attack satellite. Iron Man finds a hidden space station guarded by an energy being calling himself the Sunturion. He destroys the Sunturion's meteor shower warning and sneaks into the space station. He meets the sole resident of the satellite, Arthur Dearborn, who shows Iron Man the source of energy for the station, the Star Well. Iron Man accuses Dearborn of using the Star Well to burn the Chinese school, but Dearborn says it was an accident when A.I.M. jammed his signal while he was running a test. An A.I.M. scout ship approaches the satellite, and Dearborn says they locked onto Iron Man's signal to find the station. Iron Man holds off the ship and tells Dearborn to shut down the Star Well. Dearborn refuses, calling the Star Well his salvation and reveals that he is the Sunturion. Iron Man decides to pull the plug on the station before more A.I.M. ships arrive, but the Sunturion stops him. Iron Man and the Sunturion battle the A.I.M. ships until they abandon their ship, making it head towards New York City. Iron Man tries to deflect the ship, but finds he is low on power. The Sunturion destroys the ship, absorbing all of his energy into its destruction. Meanwhile in China, the Mandarin finds another ring in an eagle's nest.
quotation
  • Goodbye, Dearborn. It's ironic that your ultimate gift to mankind wasn't the Star Well after all, but rather the life you sacrificed to destroy it.
