In Crash Bandicoot, according to Andy Gavin, one of the game's staff and co-founder of Naughty Dog, said that there was going to be a lava caves level in the game, but it was deleted because the lava had screening problems, clashed with Crash's orange colour and forced too many polygons on-screen. However, lava is still present in Koala Kong's boss fight. Most of the level can be found in the disc for the prototype build of the first Crash Bandicoot game, although in an older format not supported by the game.
